List Of Episodes For Agatha Christie's Marple
Between 12 December 2004 and 29 December 2013, ITV broadcast a series of adaptations of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple novels and short stories under the title Agatha Christie's Marple, usually referred to as Marple. The title of the series removes the word Miss from Miss Marple, to match the title of the series Agatha Christie's Poirot. The title character, Miss Jane Marple, was played by Geraldine McEwan from the first to third series until her retirement from the role, and Julia McKenzie from the fourth series onwards.
Agatha Christie wrote twelve novels about Miss Marple, all of which have been adapted for the series. There are, however, a number of short stories featuring Miss Marple that remain unfilmed. Each series consists four feature-length episodes, except series six which only has three. The first six episodes are adaptations of Miss Marple novels. Subsequent episodes are derived both from works featuring Miss Marple as well as Agatha Christie novels that do not originally feature Miss Marple. The adaptions are notable for changing the plots and characters of the original Agatha Christie stories (for example, incorporating lesbian affairs, changing the identities of some killers, renaming or removing significant characters).
Following the conclusion of the sixth series, it was announced that BBC had acquired the rights for the production of Agatha Christie adaptations, suggesting that ITV would be unable to continue on to make a seventh series of Agatha Christie's Marple.
